Batch drip
The workhorse. A good drip machine with fresh beans and the right dose beats most café coffee — set it up right once and every morning takes ninety seconds of effort.

Dose right
60g of medium grind for a full 960g carafe — the number-one drip mistake is under-dosing. Weigh it; scoops lie.

Level the bed
Shake the basket flat so the shower head wets everything evenly.

Brew
Start the cycle. If your machine has a bloom or 'pre-infusion' mode, use it.

Serve, don't scorch
Move the carafe off the hot plate within 15 minutes — a warming plate slowly cooks the pot bitter.
Dial it in
- Weak and thin
- More coffee, not a finer grind — drip machines extract on a fixed schedule.
- Bitter by cup two
- Get the carafe off the warming plate; use a thermal carafe if you can.
- Uneven, sour-and-bitter
- Level the bed before brewing and clean the shower head — channeling extracts unevenly.
